Earlier this month, Holly was delighted to host the Calderdale charity Slow the Flow in Parliament and provide them with the opportunity to discuss their work with MPs from all parties.

The charity was initially established in response to the devastating Boxing Day floods that devastated our area in 2015. Since then, they have made remarkable strides in advocating for proactive, sustainable approaches to flood management in Calderdale. As a result of their efforts, they have been recognised with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2021 and a Susdrain SuDS Champion award in 2022.

Impressed by their achievements, MPs from across the country engaged with the charity’s trustees to explore how they could replicate similar successes in their own constituencies. The volunteers were also keen to relay their own messages to MPs surrounding the funding framework for Natural Flood Management and the importance of developing green skills and expertise in schools and in local authorities.

Reflecting on the event, Holly remarked, “It was great to host Slow the Flow in Parliament today and showcase the fantastic work they do to MPs from across the country. They make such a difference in mitigating flood risk and advocating for nature-based solutions to flood management.”

The charity’s trustees expressed their gratitude, stating, “We are incredibly proud and thankful to MP Holly Lynch for hosting us at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday. We had many fruitful conversations with MPs about natural flood management and what they can do in their own constituencies. Through initiatives like these, we can continue to advance sustainable solutions and build more resilient communities.”
