Holly is committed to improving flood defences and investigating other measures to protect our communities in Halifax and across Calderdale. Over recent years, flooding has become increasingly common and dangerous, putting homes, lives and businesses at risk.

Holly has always pushed the Government to do more when it comes to flood prevention. After months of lobbying for a Floods Summit this finally happened in September 2021. The Flooding Minister, Rebecca Pow, visited Hebden Bridge to hold a roundtable with council leaders, MPs, the Environment Agency and residents.

Despite massive improvements in infrastructure and flood defences flooding still remains a real risk. Holly continues to work with the government, stakeholders and residents in Halifax to make sure everyone remains safe. Climate Change is one of the biggest challenges faced by us all and Holly does everything she can to advocate for a Green Transformation so we can reach net zero, achieve full regional equality and take Britain forward to a progressive future.

Holly wants to pay particular tribute to the Flood Wardens across Halifax and Calderdale who have worked so hard and done so much for their communities.

Holly supports ‘Slow the Flow’, the charity set up after the 2015 floods which has done amazing work on natural flood defences and community protection – she often joins them to look at their projects. In 2021 she arranged to take West Yorkshire Mayor, Tracy Brabin to see their work and in 2024, Holly was delighted to host them in Parliament to provide them with the opportunity to discuss their work with MPs from all parties. The charity’s trustees expressed their gratitude after the event, stating, “We are incredibly proud and thankful to MP Holly Lynch for hosting us at the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday. We had many fruitful conversations with MPs about natural flood management and what they can do in their own constituencies. Through initiatives like these, we can continue to advance sustainable solutions and build more resilient communities.”
