Holly Lynch MP and the Deputy Mayor joined activists, employers, councillors and church representatives, to formally launch Halifax’s own Fairtrade campaign at the town hall.

Fairtrade products guarantee better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.

‘Fairtrade Halifax’ becomes the latest addition to Fairtrade Yorkshire’s rapidly growing network of local Fairtrade groups. Brought together by Halifax MP, Holly Lynch, the group is looking to attract more members and aims to hold a public launch event during Fairtrade fortnight at the end of February.

Holly Lynch MP said:

“2015 is a big year for international development and I think it is important that we play our own part here in Halifax. Calderdale Council, the church community, and some of Halifax’s biggest employers are already on board with the campaign, which is a big boost.”

Mark Dawson from Fairtrade Yorkshire said:

“It’s fantastic that we have this new group in Halifax and we look forward to working with Calderdale Council and local employers such as Lloyds, Nestle and Suma, as well as with small businesses.  The group has a great opportunity to promote fairness and justice for all the producers and farmers that provide us with the goods that we enjoy.  We welcome the newest addition to our family.”
