Holly Lynch MP From Halifax, For Halifax
Israel and Palestine; campaigning for peace in the region
Holly’s response to the recent escalation in fighting
Since the attacks on October 7th, Holly has used her position as a Member of Parliament to call for restraint and an end to civilian suffering. Unfortunately, the situation remains desperate and the scale of death and destruction has been intolerable.
She has spoken in Parliament multiple times, including calling for an immediate ceasefire and you can see links to all of those contributions here:
- Holly asking the Government if the UK’s standing on international law is to mean anything around the world, there has to be consequences for failing to comply with the ICJ the ruling. She has also welcome the progress at the UN recently week and hopes this makes a difference on the ground.
- Holly asking the Government what role it will play in ensuring Israel complies with the ICJ Ruling.
- After meeting a local resident who has family in Gaza, Holly urged the Minister to redouble efforts to work towards an enduring humanitarian ceasefire.
- Holly asked the Government specifically what efforts they have made to have the unacceptable siege conditions in Gaza lifted.
- According to the UNFPA there are 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza. Holly asked Ministers what more can be done to ensure hospitals are safe.
Holly has pledged to continue to using her platform in Parliament to call for an end to the fighting, for innocent civilians to be protected, for the hostages to be released and for aid to be pumped into Gaza.
Past campaigning
Since being elected in 2015, Holly has has remained committed to raising the issue of Palestine both nationally and internationally wherever possible to seek to bring peace to the region, based on mutual respect and the upholding of international law and human rights.
In Autumn 2017 she visited Israel and Palestine as part of a delegation of MPs. She saw first hand the appalling conditions faced by many in Palestinian communities and how even hospitals had become places of violence. You can see footage from this trip above.
Following the trip, she told MPs about her experiences in Khan al Ahmar & Susiya in a debate on Israeli demolitions of Palestinian communities, see below.
As well as being a part of Labour Friends of Palestine & the Middle East, Holly has brought forward Early Day Motions in support of peace in the region:
- Demolitions in East Jerusalem (23 July 2019) – 60 signatures
- White House Israeli-Palestinian Peace Plan (8 July 2019) – 25 signatures

On our return we called on online booking companies to stop offering tourists accommodation in illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Today we have written to the Foreign Sec asking him to intervene in this long battle. https://t.co/pnezfHkflT” / Twitter
