Following the recent escalation of violence in Myanmar and widespread human rights violations, it is estimated by Rohingya organisations that between 2,000-3,000 people have been killed. More than 100,000 innocent Rohingya men, women and children have been forced to flee their homes in a campaign which UN officials say may amount to ethnic cleansing. Satellites have recorded images of whole villages burnt to the ground and there are fears that this could constitute a final campaign to rid Myanmar of the Rohingya. It is clear that action needs to be taken by the international community.
It is crucial that the UK Government recognises the seriousness of this situation and does all that it can bring about a resolution.
Please sign the petition below:
An End to violence against Rohingya Muslims
To the House of Commons.
The petition of residents of the UK,
Declares that every effort must be made to halt the violence against Rohingya Muslims which has seen in the region of 3,000 people killed and more than 100,000 people having to flee their homes in Myanmar.
The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Foreign Secretary to take urgent action to do all that is possible to bring about an end to the violence as well as ensuring that any funding to the Government in Myanmar is halted until a long term and durable peace is reached with the Rohingya.
And the petitioners remain, etc.
