Holly visited Pulman Steel in the aftermath of the Boxing Day floods to see the damage to stock and machinery 

Holly has criticised the Government’s National Flood Resilience Review for failing to offer solutions for the Calder Valley or the broken market in business flood insurance. The delayed report was finally published earlier this month by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs yet there was widespread disappointment that it did not offer specific proposals targeted at the valley. Holly said:

“This report does not address the issue of the broken market for business insurance which we urgently need government action to fix. Firms like Pulman Steel in Sowerby Bridge are major employers in Calderdale yet they are struggling to get properly insured after flooding last year.

“We also need specific proposals for protecting homes and businesses in the Calder Valley. It is disappointing that once again, schemes in the Home Counties and the Thames Valley get the go-ahead while defences in Yorkshire are clearly lacking.

“I will be working in Parliament to convince the Government of the need for business insurance reform and proper investment in our flood defences.”
